The 2008 New York Book Festival has set Friday, June 27 and Saturday, June 28 as the dates for its annual program celebrating books that deserve greater recognition from the world’s publishing capital. Grand prize for the 2008 New York Book Festival Author of the Year is $1,500 and a flight to New York for the awards and our day festival in Central Park. In June 2008, the Swedish Writers’ Union launches WALTIC - the Value of Words, the first literary world congress of its kind. The Highlights Foundation is holding its 24th annual Writers Workshop at Chautauqua, Chautauqua, NY, on July 12-19, 2008. The conference includes seminars, small-group workshops, and one-on-one sessions with some of the most accomplished and prominent authors, illustrators, editors, critics, and publishers in the world of children’s literature. The third annual Ventura Book Festival will be held on Saturday, July 26, 2008, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Crowne Plaza, Ventura Beach, at California Street and Harbor Boulevard in Ventura. The festival is in a beautiful location, only steps from the promenade, the ocean, and the historic Ventura Pier. California Literary Arts Society (CLAS) is accepting reservations now for exhibitor space. This year they are offering a special fee for those who would like to share a table with one other exhibitor. The registration deadline is July 19. However, to be assured of a listing in the festival program, exhibitors must register at least two weeks prior to the event. The fee per booth is $125 for those who register by June 30 and $150 after that date. The fee for half a table is $65 by June 30 and $80 afterward.
